PAARL's Library Tour of Outstanding Academic Libraries

The Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians, Inc. (Fully Engaged, Member-Driven Association) is pleased to invite you to a library tour of outstanding academic libraries for benchmarking purposes on August 29, 2011 (Monday).

Schedule is as follows:

8:00-9:30am De La Salle University Library, Taft Avenue, Manila
10:00-11:30am UST Miguel de Benavides Library, España, Manila
1:00-2:30pm UP College of Engineering, Diliman, Quezon City
3:30-5:00pm Rizal Library, Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City


PAARL, Inc. is initiating this activity to provide librarians, library personnel and library enthusiasts to see face to face growth of outstanding academic libraries in the Philippines, observe best library practices only the above mentioned libraries can demonstrate, and listen to success stories about each of them.

There is a registration fee of Php400.00 for members, Php500.00 for non-members to cover bus rental and driver's fee, fuel and insurance, driver's meals and parking fees, certificates and gifts to host libraries. Payments may be deposited at any BPI Family Savings Bank nationwide with Account No. 595-107-8206. Checks must be payable to “PAARL”. Only thirty (30) bus seats are available. Reserve a seat now!

July 13, 2011 Library Service & Teaching Portfolios: Collecting & Creating, A Professional’s Best

The Association, also, believes with what Brown (2002) iterated in her paper about planning portfolios, that librarians, teachers and other professionals will have to be continually engaged in reflection and self-assessment.

The Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL), Fully Engaged, Member-driven Association, in cooperation with the Academic Booksellers Association of the Philippines (ABAP), is pleased to invite you to a lecture-forum themed on Library Service & Teaching Portfolios: Collecting & Creating, A Professional’s Best, beginning 10am to 3pm on July 13, 2011 in the Seminar Rooms of Megatrade Hall 3, 5th Level Mega B, SM Megamall, EDSA, Mandaluyong City on the occasion of the 15th Philippine Academic Book Fair.

The said lecture forum is primarily aimed at:

(1) encouraging participants to adopt and apply a business model, portfolio management, in library planning and other activities;

(2) raising the librarians’ teaching identity through teaching portfolios; and,

(3) acquiring practical tips and clear guidance on producing and collecting successful library service and teaching portfolios.

There is a registration fee of P300.00 for members, P350.00 for non-members and P200.00 for students to cover lunch and certificates. Renewal and application of membership for 2011 are also encouraged. With renewal and application of membership (fees: Php200.00, individual; Php500.00, institutional) for 2011, an ID is issued plus a 2011 PAARL souvenir pin is given to each individual who registers. The Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians, Inc. PAARL) is pleased to invite you to its 4-day educational tour in Asia’s World City, Hong Kong. The activity, dubbed as “Library Observation in Exciting Hong Kong” will be conducted from October 19-22, 2011.

This year’s most awaited international exposure will bring together the excitement of visiting Hong Kong’s selected state-of-the-art libraries, a chance to learn in a seminar-orientation with Hong Kong’s high-profile information specialists, experience cultural immersion and warm hospitality of its people and a glimpse to Hong Kong’s top destinations and sceneries. Specifically, the tour aims to:

1. benchmark with Hong Kong’s Libraries
2. observe the latest technological progress and infrastructures in
selected Hong Kong libraries;
3. learn new trends and meaningful concepts of library services from
selected Hong Kong libraries;
4. foster professional and cultural exchange between Filipino and Hong
Kong librarians;
5. establish a linkage among Hong Kong library associations for future
collaborative undertakings in the region.
