Dear Colleagues,
Greetings from PAARL!
As part of our Membership Campaign, PAARL is inviting your institution to join the Association as an institutional member, or if already a member, to renew its Institutional membership.
Institutional members are those which maintain academic or research libraries and are interested in supporting the objectives of the Association. The representative of an Institutional member, usually its head librarian, shall be designated upon payment of the membership due amounting to only P500.00, and shall have the rights and privileges of a regular member, and to join PAARLNET, a network of libraries who will participate in an Interlibrary Lending Program, a cooperative resource-sharing arrangement that is expected to serve our common interests and needs.
PAARL is also campaigning to increase the number of our individual members. The fee for both regular and associate members is P200.00 per annum per member. To qualify for regular membership, the librarian must be licensed and employed in an academic or research institution, while associate members are those without license and/or not employed in academic or research institutions. May we request your kind office to disseminate this information to them and encourage them to register or renew their individual membership.
For this year, PAARL is issuing a unique “Membership Pin w/ an ID", (refer to attached image) an exclusive pin for new and renewed PAARL members. This is not for sale and limited to the members only. It shall be given to the first 500 members who have paid and/or renewed their membership. Wear this PIN in every Association's activity and be proud of being PAARL.
For those who have already paid in January and February of this year and have not received their pins and IDs and certificates of Institutional Membership, kindly bring your official receipts (ORs) in the next PAARL fora/activity and claim them from Ms. Matet Villanueva. No receipt, no PIN.
We are enclosing a membership form (see attached file) for your convenience. Please send it back to us either by mail or fax. INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE, 38th Anniversary Celebration of PAARL, Inc.
by Mr. Edwin Santiago
Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Services and University Registrar , DLSU
38th PAARL Annual General Assembly and
Induction/Awarding Ceremonies
28 January 2011, 8:00am
National Library of the Philippines
The Chairperson of the Board of Librarians of the Professional Regulation Commission, Ms. Corazon Nera, and board members Ms. Mila Ramos and Ms. Arabella Ananoria; The Board of Directors, past presidents and members of the Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians, led by outgoing president Mr. Christopher Paras; The representatives of the different library associations in the Philippines;
Dear librarians and guests, a pleasant good morning.
Cicero was quoted to have said, “To add a library to a house is to give that house a soul.” In the same vein, we could also claim that libraries are the heart of our educational institutions, the lifeblood, for they feed the mind and nourish our spirit with knowledge and information.
Which is why it is our personal joy as an administrator that the De La Salle University Library is under our supervision as part of the Academic Services Group. We get to be familiarized and involved in its initiatives that contribute to the university’s mission-vision of being “A leading learner-centered research university, bridging faith and scholarship in the service of society, especially the poor”
The dedication of our De La Salle University librarians to this profession is evidenced by the activities and projects it is undertaking to continuously improve their services and proactively respond to the needs of the university community. In terms of personal development, our library personnel recently participated in the Seminar on Quality Service Management upon their return from the holiday break early this month.
Last year, the university library started accepting payments for fines and printing via the electronic card GreenPurse. It also converted the Cybernook into Cafe@theLibrary, operated by Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Library. In addition, it will soon launch a 24/7 Tele-Reference Service through Text Messaging.
For sure, your respective libraries have also been undergoing changes in this Web 2.0information technology-driven academic environment. The PAARL series of seminars and fora are very important sources of how to adapt and adopt to these online systems, and how to constantly improve library services. It is to your credit that libraries are not becoming obsolete but are moved to the forefront in the collection, organization, and dissemination of knowledge.
The election of Mr. Roderick Ramos as your new PAARL president is a timely and fitting contribution for the De La Salle University Centennial celebrations this 2011. As such, we wish to take this opportunity to invite you to visit our library, and you will definitely get a very warm welcome from Erick.
Please accept my sincere apologies for not being able to be physically here with you due to unforeseen personal circumstances.
Congratulations to the new PAARL Board of Directors. Thank you.
