Out & Reach, Photos in Bolinao, Pangasinan

Out & Reach, Photos in Bolinao, Pangasinan

Early hours in the morning of December 10, 2009 Board left for Balingasay National High School, Bolinao, Pangasinan for a very warm group of teachers, students and school personnel led by Mrs. Editha B. Gasilan (Principal) through an entertaining turn over ceremony program for educational materials with some novel and souvenir items collected by PAARL, Inc. The Association, also, made each the happiest after 12 noon.

Mrs. Gasilan, according to her, felt honored for having been given the privilege to thank Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians, Inc. headed by Ms. Elvira Lapuz (President) and Mr. Christopher Paras (Vice-President) who came to her school previously to inform everyone that the library of Balingasay National High School will be recipient of educational materials.

She, also, fervently prays that PAARL, Inc. continue to extend such valued help and opportunities for the development of the school leading to the attainment of quality education in Balingasay, Bolinao, Pangasinan. Pregnant faculty Mrs. Fely B. Pascua emceed the program.

Reflections:

REACHING OUT !
Reaching out to you, do you feel it too?
Loving you is all I want to do
I am completely sure, never felt this way before
When I smile you know that there is something more…

Truly, there were something more in thoughts, words and deeds among the BOARD MEMBERS and benefactor of PAARL 2009 when they decided to pack their things and went to Bolinao, Pangasinan in order to share the Yuletide blessings with the students and faculty members of Balinsangay National High School last December 12, 2009.

After more than six hours of travel by two cars, PAARL on board were recharged with excitement & joy in their hearts as well as smiles on their lips when the packages of reference books and other reading materials were unbundled in the presence of selected students and their teachers. In gratitude, the recipients rendered a short program to acknowledge the gifts and the givers.

“R & R” or Rest and Recreation ensued to conclude and mark all the target projects and activities lined up for the year. Although challenges were met along the way, surely victories were at hand. The group proceeded to rest at Sun View Beach Resort on the same day. Later in the afternoon, they drove to Bolinao’s Lighthouse and traced the history of the place during the Japanese occupation; to Cindy’s Cave to see the miracles of nature and thanked God for the dawning of the day with its beautiful sunset by the sea.

In behalf of the members, benefactors and sponsors of PAARL, the Board attended the afternoon mass last December 13, 2009 to thank God and our Lady of Manaog for all the blessings they had poured and will continue to shower upon the association.

Martha Buckley @ 11:12am

Right after Rev. Fr. Paul Ma. M. De Vera, O.S.B. shared about three seeds of librarianship in a mass celebrating the 75th National Book Week celebration on November 24, 2009 @ 10am (TNL Auditorium), Cultural Affairs Officer Martha Buckley, United States Embassy, for her invaluable contribution, received a certificate of appreciation from 2009 National Book Week Committee led by PLAI President Lilia F. Echiverri.

Ms. Buckley, keynote speaker with the theme "Kaaya-ayang Magbasa sa Kapaligirang Kay Ganda," urged libraries, librarians, teachers, parents, kids and everyone to be environmental leaders of the community. She said that each can have a great impact to communities through wise environmental choices. That, this can be done at all levels- national, local or through individual actions where leading by example is a great way to start. Her thoughts and wishes were heightened all the more when TNL choir sang with their lovely rendition of Sumusumpa ako, aalagan ko... ang kalikasan na kapaligiran ko... ng pagmumulan ito ng bagong pag-asa.

Library guru and an idol of many, Ms. Angela Verzosa iterated about the need for library readiness and strong management in a lecture-forum on Disaster Management in Libraries: Response and Recovery Operations for Water-related Damages" @ 2pm. More than 85 heads attended and listened to Ms. Verzosa (2009 PLAI Hall of Fame Awardee with fellow recipient Salvacion M. Arlante, UP Library Director) in the auditorium of The National Library of the Philippines. The lecture-forum was sponsored by Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians, Inc. or PAARL, Inc.

Welcome Address After Ondoy and Peping!

Elvira Lapuz
President, PAARL, Inc.

A most pleasant day to everyone!

Thank you very much, for once again, gracing this PAARL event. We almost did not make it here today! Ondoy and Pepeng sure did their worst in causing much devastation. We were in a way affected. Most of the details we were working on for this Conference were derailed. There was even a moment that we actually thought of canceling. But thanks to the sturdy and ever firm resolution of the PAARL Board, we decided to proceed with the preparations. It is a decision that proved to be a really sound one because you are all here.

The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians Inc. (PAARL) National Conference is focused on the theme “The Power of Convergence: Technology and Connectivity in the 21st Century Library & Information Services”.

Specifically, this conference will be focusing on the following objectives:

1. To explore the future directions of libraries and librarians considering the unstoppable trends and demands of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

2. To discuss the vital role of web technologies in enhancing the delivery of library and information services and how these resources can be of optimal use to establishing collaborative linkages among institutions.

3. To train the participants in surviving the present challenges of net and online technologies and prepare them to become thoroughly adept with the 21st century technological innovations.

PAARL have always prided itself in developing and conceptualizing programs for the continuing education and professional development not only of its members, but of those who will choose to become part of its various activities. For this Conference, we have applied for CPE accreditations and given eleven (11) credit units by the CPEC.

We say thank you to the officials and administrators of St. Paul College of Pasig, for accommodating us and providing a venue for this event. I would like to make special mention of our Board Director, Sr. Gloria Pasamba, SPC who have facilitated most of the arrangements and preparations made for this Conference.

We would also like to thank those who have been supporting PAARL in all its endeavors. We say thank you to our book dealers and suppliers, our exhibitors and sponsors. Please do find time to visit their booths and take this opportunity to do your evaluation and selection of possible new acquisitions for your libraries.

We say thank you to ALL of you for choosing to be part of this event.

May this Conference prove to be another success!!
